The inaugural Chile edition of the Lollapalooza festival will be headline by The Killers band along with Kayne West, it’s been announced.

At O’Higgins Park in Santiago on April 2-3,the two day events will going to take place.

30 Seconds To Mars, Fatboy Slim, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Cold War Kids and The National are other acts confirmed to play at the festival.

Jane’s Addiction, the band fronted by Lollapaloozaorganisers Perry Ferell, will also appear.

"The job we did to gather these artists for 2011 was remarkable," Farrell said.

"Imagine gathering 60 artists while the contract ink is still wet. We put it together at a record pace as we had four months. We did not want to come to Chile with a lineup that was anything other than world-class.”

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas has tapped Las Vegas native Brandon Flowers and other musicians to help open the new Strip resort on Dec. 15.

The Killers frontman will perform songs from his new album “Flamingo” at Cosmopolitan’s Boulevard Pool at 10 p.m. on opening night. The show will also be broadcast live on the Strip through the resort’s 65-foot digital marquee.

Also performing on Dec. 15 will be Mayer Hawthorne, Beats Antique and Australian sisters Liv and Mim Nevro, known as Nevro. The musicians will each perform at separate entertainment venues throughout the night beginning at 8 p.m.

The performers, with the exception of Flowers, with perform twice a night through Dec. 18.

“This entertainment experience is an indication of what’s to come,” Cosmopolitan Chief Executive John Unwin said.

I remember when Paul McCartney was offered to play the Super Bowl Halftime show, he said something to the effect of it being “the greatest chance of his lifetime.” I chalked that up to him being an amiable brit, and quite possibly forgetting he was in The Beatles at one point in time. But The Killers playing On 4th July the White House might really be some sort of zenith for them, something for Old Man Flowers to tell his grandkids as he dandles them on his knee.
President Obama and First Lady Michelle hosted more than 1,200 military heroes and their families on the lawn of the White House last night in celebration of The 4th. The concert bill featured many great acts in addition to The Killers: Barack Obama, Cedric “The Entertainer”, Brandi Carlile, and our National Capital 4th Of July Fireworks Display.
Opener President Obama kept it concise, and avoided a boilerplate flag waving Independence Day platform, instead opting for a heart felt, passionate speech saluting our armed forces with words pregnant with patriotism and love for his country. You can tell this guy’s got some chops, and expect him to see him at bigger venues in the near future. Only complaint is I wish he would have thrown in a John Cougar Mellencamp cover or something.
And so then a little bit later The Killers, fresh off/on their hiatus, came out and did a truncated show leading into the fireworks display. The band didn’t skip a beat, pounding out singles from their catalogue while Flowers commanded the the stage. Highlights include God Bless America which comes off as one of the more earnest things The Killers have done currently, and When You Were Young into the fireworks display is most grand indeed. The Killers had hoped that the Australian leg of their recent tour would be completed as planned, but due to the severity of the illness of a close family member, they regretfully announce the cancellation of their Sydney Enmore show as well as their shows at Good Vibrations Festival Sydney and Good Vibrations Festival Perth this weekend. The band excuse to their Australian fans and asks for their understanding. The Killers still intend to perform at the Good Vibrations Festival's Gold Coast and Melbourne shows next weekend.
The Killers would also like to take this chance to assure their fans that any concerns about the future of the band are unfounded. They are all looking forward to some time off at the end of this tour as they have been on the road for a long time, but there are no plans for an indefinite hiatus.

But Flowers says the Killers' indulgence in the stereotypical rock star lifestyle is now in the wind.
"When we got away from cliches, our shows started actually getting better," Flowers points out.
"You become mindful that people are coming to see a band that's well-rehearsed," added drummer Ronnie Vannucci. "Burning the candle at both ends could hinder performance."
By no means, however, are the Mormon raised Flowers and the rest of the quartet choirboys.
"I think we smartened up and were a little bit more selective of when we were going to go paint the town red," Flowers says with a smile.
Now on their fourth album, the band's impressive live show is coming to a screen near you.
"The Killers: Live From The Royal Albert Hall" was recorded earlier this year in London at the prestigious 138 year old venue. The CD/DVD set, to be released on Tuesday, also features extra footage, including backstage interviews, and excerpts from their performances at the Oxygen and V Festivals as well as a Hyde Park concert, also in London.
Flowers credits London as the place where their success began.
"We wanted to capture that and thank them," Flowers says. "The energy is different (there). It's not a part of our culture to celebrate music here the way they do across the Atlantic."
The soft spoken Flowers is fearless. He commands the stage like a modern day crooner, except that he fronts a rock band instead of an orchestra, and wears "guyliner" and feather epaulettes on his blazer (at other times, he opts for a gilded suit).
Despite the boldness of his stage attire, the Killers lead singer doesn't see himself as a style icon.
"I'm just trying not to look stupid and apparently some people don't think I'm doing a very good job," Flowers says, then breaks into a gentle laugh.
They've been touring for their latest album, "Day & Age," for more than a year, and expect to be on the road for a good part of 2010. Spreading their flamboyant brand of pop around the world is a highlight for the band, but they're also cognizant of its drawbacks.
Vanucci reduces the dilemma to a single word: "Airports." Then Flowers chimes, "To take off in the sky — not natural. I'd rather be on the bus on the ground." Immediately, Vannucci interjects, "Somebody's scared to fly," before both break out in laughter.
That spirit among Killers translates on stage — and that's where it actually matters.

The killers of a teenage boy including the girl who lured him to his death in a savage knife attack in south London, are to be sentenced later.
Shakilus Townsend, 16, was besotted with Samantha Joseph who lured him to the gang made up of her ex-boyfriend Danny McLean and five others.
The prosecution at the Old Bailey said a knife was raked across the victim's liver in the "honey trap" attack.
Shakilus called out for his mother as he lay dying, the tribunal was told.
The stripling, from Deptford, south-east London, was attacked in a cul-de-sac in Thornton Heath in July 2008.
Residents tried to stem the loss of blood with bath towels but he died several hours later in hospital.
The court was told Joseph lured their victim to the gang which was made up of McLean, 18, brothers Tyrell Ellis, 19, and Don-Carlos Ellis, 18, all from Thornton Heath; Andrew Johnson-Haynes, 18, from Croydon, south London; Andre Thompson and Michael Akinfenwa, both 17 and both of Norwood, south London.

Shakilus was attacked with a baseball bat and stabbed several times.
As he lay bleeding he called out for his mother, crying: "I don't need to die."
Brian Altman QC, prosecuting, said Joseph, now 17, "set up the hapless Shakilus Townsend in a honey trap with a lethal and tragic twist".
"She was more than equal to the task. She played her part to perfection, duping Shakilus who could see no wrong in her, the others in hot chase of him."
His mother, Nicola Dyer, wept as her son's killers were found hangdog at the Old Bailey trial in July.

Brandon Flowers and Ronnie Vanucci told that the band are planning to record an album of covers before the end of the year.

They've been thinking hard about which acts they'd like to include on the album.

"It's something that we've always talked about doing and we're still talking about," Flowers said. "It's difficult for each of us to pick songs that represent us as individuals. I mean, I have a lot of personalities myself! I've gone through everything from Neil Diamond to The Cars."

Vanucci cited acts including "Genesis, Tom Waits, a little Cyndi Lauper, Iggy Pop" as his preferred choices for the album, adding that he's also been "messing around with a couple of Fleet Foxes songs" recently.

The drummer continued by saying that the band are planning to work on the album while on their current tour, explaining that The Killers have taken a mobile recording rig on the road with them. "It sounds excellent," he noted.

The Killers are set to headline Hard Rock Calling in London this year.

Few bands in the mid-2000s rose so rapidly to the front of pop music as Las Vegas group of four the Killers. With a mix of '80s-styled synth pop and fashionista charm, the band's street-smart debut, Hot Fuss, became one of 2004's biggest releases, spawning four singles and shoot the group -- particularly their dandyish, 22-year-old frontman, Brandon Flowers -- into the international spotlight. Hot Fuss reveled in the garish glitz of the band's native Las Vegas, spinning tales of androgynous girlfriends and illicit affairs to a public whose taste for revivalist dance-rock would prove to be virtually insatiable. Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, and the Bravery all benefited from such retro-minded interest, but the Killers shamelessly trumped them all -- even when their sophomore effort, Sam's Town, deemphasized the group's new wave responsiveness in favor of something more akin to the heartland rock of Bruce Springsteen and Rattle and Hum-era U2.

Brandon Flowers (vocals/keyboards), David Keuning (guitar), Mark Stoermer (bass), and Ronnie Vannucci (drums) first came together in 2002, two years before the stylish Hot Fuss introduced their band to the public. Flowers had been sacked by his former synth pop band, Blush Response, after refusing to move to Los Angeles alongside his bandmates.

Shared U.K. dates with British Sea Power and stellastarr in summer 2004 gave the Killers the opportunity to showcase material from their debut album, Hot Fuss, which arrived in June. "Somebody Told Me," "Mr. Brightside," "Smile Like You Mean It," and "All These Things That I've Done" all became worldwide chart hits, and Hot Fuss peaked at number seven on the Billboard Top 200. Buoyed by such success, Flowers became a sought-after media presence, often lashing out at such groups as the Bravery for riding his band's coattails into the mainstream. The frontman's confidence was not unwarranted; by 2006, Hot Fuss had earned five Grammy nominations and sold over five million copies. Rather than take a break to recover from their relentless tour regime, the Killers immediately set to work on their sophomore effort.
